AusPATH Awards for Early Career Researchers

The AusPATH Early Career Researcher (ECR) Awards will be presented at the AusPATH 2025 Conference, held in Hobart, 27–29 November 2025. Submissions open Thursday 16 October 2025, and close Friday 14 November 2025.

1. Best Early Career Researcher Award

Conference resources have been developed by ASHM Conference & Events Division to assist you with your abstract submission and delivery of your presentation. The resources available are: 

Purpose: 

To recognise an emerging researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to trans and gender diverse (henceforth ‘trans’) health research, practice, or policy in Australasia. This award celebrates excellence, innovation, and leadership in research that advances the wellbeing, rights, and inclusion of trans communities. 

Eligibility: 

  • The nominee must be an Early Career Researcher, defined as being within five years (full-time equivalent) of completing their PhD, professional doctorate, or equivalent research qualification, excluding any career interruptions (e.g. parental leave, clinical service, illness, or other circumstances). 

  • The nominee must be an active AusPATH member at the time of nomination. 

  • Research must focus on topics relevant to trans health, wellbeing, or lived experience. 

Selection Criteria: 

  • Research Excellence: Quality, rigour, and impact of research outputs or programs of work. 

  • Innovation and Contribution: Originality and advancement of new approaches, perspectives, or methodologies. 

  • Engagement and Collaboration: Evidence of collaboration with communities, peers, and/or interdisciplinary teams. 

  • Knowledge Translation: Demonstrated impact on practice, policy, or community outcomes. 

  • Leadership and Mentoring: Contribution to developing others (students, peers, or community partners). 

Nomination Process: 

Nominations open Thursday, 16 October 2025, and close Friday 14 November 2025 (midnight AEST). 

Nominees must submit: 

  •  A statement of up to 500 words addressing the selection criteria. 

  • A two-page CV. 

This award is by self-nomination. Applications should be sent as a single pdf document to president@auspath.org.au.

The Award Judging Panel, comprising AusPATH Board and Research Committee representatives will review all nominations. Late submissions will not be considered. 

The recipient will be announced at the AusPATH Conference Closing Ceremony on Saturday, 29 November 2025. 

Award: 

  • Certificate of recognition. 

  • Complimentary registration for the next AusPATH Conference. 

  • Invitation to present their work in a featured AusPATH webinar.

2. Best Paper by an Early Career Researcher Award

Purpose: 

To recognise excellence in scholarly writing and contribution to the evidence base on trans and gender diverse (henceforth ‘trans’) health by an early career researcher. 

Eligibility: 

  • The first or corresponding author must be an Early Career Researcher (within five years FTE post-PhD, excluding career interruptions). 

  • The paper must have been published or accepted for publication within the past 12 months (from 27 November 2025). 

  • The research must focus on trans health, wellbeing, or rights. 

  • The nominee must be a current AusPATH member. 

Selection Criteria: 

  • Scientific Merit: Clarity of aims, methodological quality, and rigour. 

  • Innovation and Relevance: Originality and contribution to current knowledge or practice. 

  • Impact: Demonstrated or potential influence on health, policy, or community outcomes. 

  • Accessibility: Clarity and readability for interdisciplinary and community audiences. 

Nomination Process: 

Nominations open Thursday, 16 October 2025, and close Friday, 14 November 2025 (midnight AEST). 

Nominees must submit: 

• A PDF of the published (or accepted) paper. 

• A short statement of up to 300 words describing its impact or relevance.

The judging panel will assess submissions and select the recipient based on the above criteria. Late submissions will not be considered. 

Award: 

  • Certificate of recognition presented at the AusPATH Conference Closing Ceremony on Saturday, 29 November 2025.
